Definitions & Tidbits
To assist you in understanding what you are purchasing, the following definitions refer to product descriptions on this site:
Hand-crafted: While this should speak for itself, to be clear, a hand-crafted product is one in which the final finished item is put together manually, using no manufacturing machinery processes or that involve robotics or artificial intelligence. The hallmark of a hand-crafted item is the made-by-hand creation of an artisan, craftsman or other professional.

Fashion Jewelry: Fashion jewelry, also known as costume jewelry, is usually made with base metals and simulated stones. These pieces are often made with brass, copper, or aluminum, which bend and tarnish easily. Jewelry made entirely out of textiles or leather, base metal alloys, and even metals plated with precious metals like gold or silver also fall under fashion jewelry. Simulated stones include plastic stones, cubic zirconia, and Swarovski crystals.
Semi-Fine Jewelry: Is characterized by jewelry that is made with gold vermeil or is gold-filled. Semi-fine jewelry can also made with real gemstones that are much more affordable, like morganite, pearls and opals, or “enhanced” stones, which are treated with heat or chemicals in a lab to appear clearer or more flawless or to change the color of the stone.

Fine Jewelry: Fine jewelry is used to describe jewelry made of solid gold, sterling silver, platinum, and/or other precious metals. This kind of jewelry also often uses genuine precious gemstones like real diamonds, rubies, sapphires, etc. Because it’s made entirely of solid precious metals and precious gemstones, Fine jewelry may come at an elevated price point, but in truth, the value and longevity of these pieces are well worth the investment.

Up-Cycled: Products made from objects or material reused in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original.
​
Recycled: Recycled is the process of turning waste into a reusable material or product. Almost all of The Purple Squirrel's products use recycled packaging and/or recycled shipping and packing materials. It is environmentally sustainable, kind to the earth, and to your trash bin and bill.

Retro: Refers to items that are from a near-past age, are greater than 20 years old, but fewer than 50 years old.
​
Vintage: True Vintage items are from a past age, are at least 50 years old, and fewer than 100 years old.
​
Vintage-Inspired: refers to new objects that are designed to resemble other, genuinely vintage objects.
​
Retro-Inspired: These are new items that are designed to resemble other, genuinely retro objects.
​
Antique: An item that is at least 100 years old is defined as an antique. This does not include finishes, which may be defined as antiqued (a finishing process designed to make an object look old.)

Special Note: The Squirrel is not yet an antique. However she is True Vintage - and it was a very good year!

Purple Squirrel's Policies
Returns Policy. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your product or should you receive a product that is damaged during shipping, The Squirrel will gladly refund to you your purchase price. Simply notify us for a return number and instructions, returning the unused product in its original packaging, within 14 days of the purchase date. Buyer pays return shipping costs. You must Contact Us for a Return Number to obtain the refund. Refund will be made to your payment account once the item has been received by The Squirrel. Some items, mostly those in the Personal Care category, are not returnable. Please read the return Policy for the product you wish to purchase.

Shipping Policy. The Purple Squirrel ships your order free of charge to you. At this time the Squirrel ships only to the fifty United States via the U.S. Postal Service using 3-Day Priority Mail for most products. Some larger products ship via UPS ground. Please read the shipping policy note for the product you are selecting. The Squirrel will let you know if this changes for unusual circumstances. The Squirrel is not responsible for misdirected mail due to an incorrect or inaccurate shipping address provided to us by you. Your order will ship the morning after your purchase date, with exception of Sundays and Federal holidays; it will then ship the next U.S.P.S. business day.

Privacy Policy. The Purple Squirrel will never sell or share your personal and private information with any person or entity or third party whatsoever, unless requested by federal or state authorities for legal or law enforcement purposes. The Squirrel RESPECTS your right to privacy. The squirrel does not keep cookies; however, Wix Sites may keep them in order to manage your account and login information.

Payment Policy. The Purple Squirrel uses PayPal for all payments. The Squirrel does not keep nor have access to, any payment account information. Your information is most secure by using PayPal, and gives you the freedom to select your payment method in total privacy. See Paypal's policies for the extra protections this gives you as a consumer. The Squirrel does have your membership number in order to service your membership account. Again, The Squirrel will never sell or share your personal and private information with any person or entity or third party whatsoever, unless requested by federal or state authorities for legal or law enforcement purposes. Gift Wrap Services. The Purple Squirrel offers free gift wrap services for our paid members only who have the Purple Perks Membership Plan; simply notify us through the Contacts Page immediately after purchase. Please have your Order or Confirmation number handy and our representative will assist you. You must contact us for this service prior to you order leaving our facility. The wrapping style is our choice, but you will be pleased with the results. Bows are sent with the order unapplied to the gift, to prevent damage during shipping unless you direct us to apply them. Most of our products are packaged such that they are ready for giving. We use tear-away item tags for these products. Simply tear away the tag and you are set! There are no prices on our products, to ensure your purchase privacy -- no peeling price stickers here!! Gift-giving doesn't get any easier!
